When you come to us to train, be it to get yourself in shape by losing weight, build up your muscles in the gym, or a combination of both, you may well find yourself coming to our Bar n Café afterwards.
However, your visit won’t just be about not going home hungry, as the food you eat will make a huge difference to the effectiveness of your workouts.
This is especially true when it comes to protein. If you eat this shortly after working out, your body will burn off the fat first, not the muscle. Moreover, protein is what helps add muscle bulk.
That is not all, however. Protein helps build muscle mass by releasing important amino acids, which your body can then convert into new proteins, adding extra muscle.
From a dietary perspective, meats and dairy products are most effective in providing protein. This includes salmon, chicken breast, cottage cheese and eggs. These also avoid unhealthy elements like fat and are healthier than red and processed meats, which can cause cancer.
Some plants offer protein as well, such as hemp seeds, lentils and tofu, but these do not include some of the useful amino acids found in meat and dairy, so vegans will find adding muscle harder. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done, but it does mean vegans won’t achieve their goals as quickly as their meat-eating friends.
Of all the high-protein foods, eggs can be among the best of all. This is not just because they have high protein and the best amino acids, but they are also nutritionally rich and low in fat. The last of these is a great thing because it means that if you are trying to get leaner as well as improve muscle mass, they help you with both aspects.
And, of course, let’s not forget that protein helps support your immune system, as well, since antibodies are made from proteins. In fact, all our bodily systems require the utilisation of proteins in order to function well, so prioritising protein in your diet has wide and far-reaching benefits, beyond building muscle.
So, when you come to the Bar n Café and see things on the menu with lots of protein, you can be sure this will help you not only with your muscular ambitions, but with your general health and wellbeing goals, as well.
