Can A Wellness Event Inspire Your Workforce To Get Fit?

March marks the start of spring, but while that might inspire some to get outside more as the days get warmer and lighter, the reality for those who have not got the right habits is it could be a fattening time.
First there is Shrove Tuesday with its myriad sticky pancake toppings, while anyone who does manage to do something vaguely healthy like giving up chocolate for Lent will only set up the scenario that when Easter comes, they devour a chocolate egg the size of Essex and then find they are all reduced-to-clear in the shops.
Add to that the fact that a growing prospect of some warm afternoons sat outside a pub with lots of booze will appeal to some more than a long hike in the hills, and it may not be so good for health after all.
That is why you might find a wellness event a great way to get your workforce fitter. This need not be a weekend away, but an away day where they can enjoy putting down the foundations for a healthier lifestyle.
Official figures show that in 2022-23, over 35 million days were lost to ill health in the UK. This shows that a healthy workforce is in everyone’s interest. This needs to be holistic, because those with better mental health and good self-esteem will take more care of themselves, while those who are happier about their health will be cheerier in general.
This link between mental and physical health shows that wellness is not just a matter of spending a bit more time at the gym. Nonetheless, a wellness retreat can help foster great team spirit as part of a company-wide quest to improve wellbeing.
It may even have the benefit of getting people to support each other more in this quest, which among other things might lead to a bit less comfort eating and rather less overdoing it on spring weekends.
